Turnigy Transmitter Backlight

Construction

The Turnigy 9X transmitter has a fancy display on it, but the display was difficult to see and seemed to need a backlight. Using components from an old LCD screen, and some LEDs left over from the Lightshow project, I added a blue backlight to the transmitter.

The transmitter is taken apart to remove the screen. At this point it is also possible to switch springs on the sticks so switching from Mode 1 to Mode 2 type controls is possible.

A plastic sheet and reflective sheet from an LCD are cut to size of the transmitter's display, and six illumination LEDs are glued to the circuit board. The LEDs draw power directly from the transmitter's battery and are on whenever the transmitter is on (wired to the mechanical switch).

Finished result - a successfully backlit display.
